It’s easy to fall into the trap of invalidating our feelings. We might feel guilty for feeling a certain way or compare ourselves to others who seem to have it worse. But the truth is, our senses are valid, and embracing them is essential.
Our emotions are a natural response to our environment and experiences. Whether we feel happy, sad, angry, or anxious, these feelings are valid. It’s okay to feel however we feel; we don’t need to justify or apologise for our emotions.
Validating our emotions is an important step towards emotional intelligence and self-awareness. When we acknowledge our feelings, we can better understand why we feel the way we do and take appropriate action to address our needs. But on the other hand, invalidating our emotions can lead to repression, denial, and even mental health issues like depression and anxiety.
Embracing our emotions doesn’t mean that we have to let them control us. On the contrary, practising healthy emotional regulation is important, which means acknowledging our feelings while constructively managing them. For example, we can practice self-care, talk to a trusted friend or therapist, or engage in activities that help us feel better.
It’s also important to recognise that everyone experiences emotions differently. Just because someone else might not feel the same way we do about a situation doesn’t mean our feelings are invalid. Our experiences and backgrounds shape how we perceive and respond to the world, and that’s okay.
In a world that often invalidates our emotions, it’s important to surround ourselves with people who validate us. We need people who support us and encourage us to embrace our feelings. This doesn’t mean we need to seek validation from others, but rather that we should seek out relationships that allow us to feel safe to express ourselves.
Embracing our emotions can also lead to growth and personal development. When we acknowledge our feelings, we can better understand ourselves and our needs. This understanding can help us make better decisions, communicate more effectively with others, and build more fulfilling relationships.

Our feelings are valid, and embracing them is needed. We must acknowledge our emotions, practice healthy emotional regulation, and surround ourselves with supportive people. When we validate our feelings, we can better understand ourselves and our needs and grow into our best selves. Remember, it’s okay to feel however we feel, and we don’t need to apologise.
